I need a cover - but before that, I need a title. I had a working one.
I call it The Target. But honestly, there are so many books called Target out there and another one of my published ones is called TARGETED.
So--The Target is out.
Now I have to come up with something else.
If anyone out there has any suggestions I'd love to hear them.
The book is a dark, romantic suspense that takes place predominately in Reno and involves the Washoe
Sheriff's office and the Reno PD.
It's about chat rooms for teens. I had a lot of help from someone who
works the teen chat rooms in Reno and has about 12 different personas in various
chat rooms. (She was amazing).
The plot is about a serial killer who works the chat rooms looking for
blonde, fourteen year old teenage girls. When he finds one that appears
to fit his profile he develops a relationship with her, pretending to be a
sixteen/seventeen year old boy. He convinces her to come and meet him and
chooses a location where the girl can travel by bus and back home in a
day.
When she meets him, and he’s an older man, he tells her he’s a friend of
her online boyfriend and he’s taking her to meet him.At a motel he rapes and kills her and then moves on to another chat room looking for another girl.
The detective and the sheriff are working together (reluctantly) to find
the killer before he kills another girl.
I`ve come up with these titles so far:
Meet Me and DieDon`t Go
Meet Him and Die
Do You Know Where Your Daughter is?
Do you like any of them? Which one? Other suggestions? Any help greatly
appreciated.
Darnit! Just hit the wrong button and lost my nifty list!
ReplyDeleteFourteen and Dead
Death in Reno
Death by Reno
Death by Chat Room
Dying for a Friend
Preying in Reno - Hey, I like that one!
I also meant to tell you that this sounds like a super story! Hope every teen reads it! My ex-SIL is a police detective and his "beat" is online crimes, especially those involving youth!
DeleteWishing you much luck in finding the perfect title!
Great titles, Thanks E. And I love the last one too.
DeleteI think I got so invested in The Target, I couldn't think of anything else. I would hope teens and their parents read the book. Thanks for that comment.
I like DON'T GO. Something about it is sinister and says thriller/romantic suspense all while be short and concise. Good luck!
ReplyDeletePS-this does sound like an interesting read! You could even play with a title like TO CATCH A PREDATOR since there are similarities to your story and the show =)
Thanks Lena. I hope people enjoy reading it. I think it's a good book. And that's a great idea about To Catch A Predator. I'll think about that.
DeleteProfiled. I also like Fourteen and Dead...
ReplyDeleteThanks Melissa. I'm compiling a list of all the suggestions..
DeleteYou could try using the words 'chat room' in your title? I'm going to use Lana's word predator. Chat Room Predator...Chat Room Killer -- I know this is a bit long but how about, Come Chat With Me and Die!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe that I never thought about using Chat Room in the title. Duh! You guys are awesome and I'm not sure Come Chat With Me and Die is too long. I could cut it to Chat With and Die!
DeleteThanks Rose.
What She Didn't Know
ReplyDeleteThanks Carey. I'm adding that to my list. I think I'll post the top 3 or 4 after I've gone through them all.
DeleteA great sounding story, Beverley.
ReplyDeletePossibilities are: The Darkness in the Room, Friends Online Can Be Dangerous, Darkness Creeping Into My Life, and I'm sure you'll find others.
Thanks Sandy, and good ideas. I can't believe how great everyone is at thinking up awesome titles. I should do this more often. :)
DeleteInnocent Prey
ReplyDeleteDeadly Conversations
Dark Intentions
Youthful Obsession
Lured
Deadly Confrontation
Eradication
Youthful Demise
There are just a few I could come up with off the top of my head. Good luck.
Wow! I'm so impressed. I tried to come up with something off the top of my head and I kept staring at a blank wall. Thank you.
DeleteDo the police give the serial killer a name? Or a code name to his case? That could be a good name for the novel. Like the zodiac.
ReplyDeleteWhoa - what a great idea. I don't remember a code name. She didn't share a particular case, but transcripts from a few communications, info on how the officers in the chat rooms worked, and a little bit about their personal lives and how their work affected that. But I could make up a code name. Thanks eddy.
DeleteChat First, Die Later
ReplyDeleteI like it. Added it to my list. Thanks Kadee.
DeleteKadee and I don't know each other, but we have the same idea for a title. Chat First, Die Later seems good to me!
ReplyDeleteGreat minds... I've noted that you both came up with this one. Thanks Heather.
