Kat Doran, Vengeance and Giveaways

Legal nurse consultant, victim advocate, sexual assault nurse examiner Kat Henry Doran and her alter ego, Veronica Lynch, has been there and done that--many times over. She often travels to the wilds of Northern New York State, witnessing the wonders of Mother Nature at her best. From the shores of Lake Ontario and the Saint Lawrence River to the historic Adirondack and Catskill Mountains, she creates stories featuring strong women and the men who love them.
When not writing, she can be found lashed to one of her sewing machines--or chauffeuring the four brightest stars in her life: Meredith and Ashlin, Owen and Kieran.

Character Interview

Beverley: What’s your name?
Grace: Grace Dunavan.
Beverley: Where did you grow up?
I was born in Summerville NY, a town on the shores of Lake Ontario in Western New York State. At the age of 13 I was sent to the Kylemore School in Galway Ireland where I remained until I entered the convent at age 18.
Beverley: During what time period does your story take place?
Grace: Modern day.
Beverley: What’s your story/back story?
Grace: I am a child of privilege, the only child of two sinfully wealthy people who run Eastman Industries in Western New York. From an early age my parents didn’t quite know what to do about my desire to help those less fortunate. They nearly stroked out when I told them I wanted to enter the convent—but they let me, believing I’d see the error of my ways and ‘jump the walls’. When I left the nunnery they threw the biggest party of all time. In my civilian life, I work with victims of violence.
Beverley: Why would someone come up with a story about you?
Grace: Because I’m fun. Well, that’s not the only reason, but I’m known as Mad Dog, a nickname I picked up while working in the slums of Rio de Janeiro. I’m thought to be stupid and fearless and because I run up against judges and prosecuting attorneys who have their heads up a dark place and it’s my job—because I know it all—to set them on the right path toward peace, justice and the American way.
Beverley: What conflicts are you facing?
Grace: Securing hard funding for Crime Victims Service, the agency I direct. I refuse to tap into my trust fund or go to my parents because they’ll only say “told you so”. Plus, I’m trying to figure out if Rafe Archangeli, the former Scourge of Summerville, is the real deal or one more scam artist looking for a fast buck.
Beverley: Do you have a plan for resolving them?
Grace: Let go and let God.
Beverley: Is there anything you’d like us to know about you?
Grace: I love to dance the Samba, can’t never eat enough hot fudge sundaes, and the Golden State Warriors rock.

Blurb for Vengeance is Mine (a contemporary romantic trilogy):
Ever think about going back to study hall to face down the school bully?
The mean girls?
The brainless jocks who made your life a pure misery?
For Dru Horvath, gypsy orphan turned Pulitzer Prize winning photo-journalist; Rafe Archangeli, Scourge of Summerville who now heads a multi-million dollar trust; and Fiona “Fat Aggie” Thorpe who recreated herself into an A-list model with her own A-list agency, the opportunity to exact revenge is too good to pass up.
Will they find the vengeance they crave?
Or something more valuable?

Excerpt from Vengeance is Mine:

“Tough way to find out about the other woman.”
“Other woman, hell,” Dru groused. “The assistant was some young stud from Tommy's gym with abs to die for.”
With that. she side-stepped him and reached for the knob on the bathroom door.
Fast on his feet, Rory's counter move brought them nose to nose. “Play much poker, Horvath?”
“I don't know what you mean.”
“Before you started trash talking the cheating ex-husband, your face lit up like the Fourth of July. That tells me you've got something stashed in the tote. Until you let me look inside, it stays out here.”
Clutching the canvas tote to her chest, she sneered, “The only thing in here is my outfit for tonight's event. If you think I'd go naked, one of us is a couple fries short of a happy meal.”
His response came in the form of another gimme motion with those thick, blunt fingers. “How about I close my eyes if I encounter any lacy unmentionables?”
“As if.”
She knew the instant he found the back-up phone. The screw-you look morphed into a smirk. “It's not smart to mess with Homeland Security, sweetie. Those guys eat small rodents for breakfast.”

  1. Hi, Beverley!!
long time no talk. You may not remember but you and I once wrote for Wings Press. Do you still write for them? I hope things are going well for you in your writing. Ooops--just saw the cover for Missing. Yummo. Very nice.
Anyway, thanks for hosting Vengeance Is Mine and giving Grace Dunavan the opportunity to run her mouth. Usually it's the men who step up for interviews. She beat them to the punch. Of course they're all wearing tread marks up their backs right now. They'll live. Heh heh.
Best wishes to you and your readers. I'm giving stuff away so make sure to tell them to sign up!!!

    1. Hi Kat, It's wonderful to hear from you and yes I do remember you. That was a long time ago. No I don't write for Wings any more. And I did put Giveaways in the title so hopefully people notice. Good luck with your latest book.

  2. I love this excerpt - can't wait to read this story. Also - Grace will surely give any man a run for his money. Sounds like a great set of stories!.

  3. Love this interview...sounds like a great read and an fascinating character. Best wishes!! (This is Alicia, but I had to comment as anonymous, because each time I tried to publish, it took me back to sign in but when I signed in, it took me back to this unsent message. a never-ending loop :/)
