Happy Thansgiving/Columbus Day!

Happy Thanksgiving to all my Canadian friends.

I was thinking about the day and realized how much I had to be thankful for. My health, my sweet husband, my friends, my writing, my ability to enjoy a beautiful fall day, taste that wonderful turkey dinner, listen to beautiful music. I'm also thankful to be a Canadian and live in the beautiful Okanagan valley where I can buy local wine and fruit and vegetables.
The Canadian Thanksgiving occurs on the second Monday in October every year. It was officially proclaimed by the Canadian government on Thursday, January 31st, 1957.

A Day of General Thanksgiving to Almighty God for the bountiful harvest with which Canada has been blessed – to be observed on the 2nd Monday in October.

It is a statutory holiday in all the Canadian provinces except Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, where it is an optional holiday.
It also coincides with the American Columbus Day and the English and European Harvest festival. And like the Americans we also have football games and parades in some area, on the day.

Anyone want to share what they're thankful for?

Happy Columbus Day to all my American friends.

Columbus Day celebrates the anniversary of Christopher Columbus’ arrival in America on October 12, 1942. Columbus Day became an official holiday in Colorado in 1906 and became a federal holiday in the United States in 1937, though people have been celebrating Columbus; voyage since 1792. Since 1970, the holiday has been fixed to the second Monday in October, which coincidentally is the same day Canada celebrates Thanksgiving.

  1. Happy Thanksgiving! Do you have a holiday that corresponds to our American Thanksgiving date? I wonder why we have such different holidays. :) Always fun to learn new things!

    1. Nope, nothing that corresponds with your Thanksgiving. Our next holiday is Christmas. We have several different holidays. I have no idea why. It is interesting.
