Anyone have any good suggestions on something to replace salt and that works as well?
I’m now going to try and cut back on
caffeine. I drink herbal tea, but I really need that caffeine hit in the
morning. We’ll see how that goes. I’ve switched from eggs to steel cut oats in
the morning – well most mornings. I’m
not sure I can give up eggs.
Is anyone else out there vegan,
vegetarian or trying to switch? Or even
just trying to eat healthier? How’s it going?
Here’s a recipe I’m using to make Lemony
Brown Rice. I like it.
1 c. Brown
Basmati rice 1
bay leaf
2 ½ c water 1
½ tbsp olive oil1/2 tsp sea salt 2 tbsp fresh or ½ tbsp dried parsley
2 tsp finely grated lemon zest
1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
Bring water, salt, lemon zest and
juice, bay leaf and parsley to boil. Add rice, return to boil and then lower heat
and cover. Simmer for 40 minutes or until all water has been absorbed. Turn off
heat; keep covered and let sit for 5 min. Remove bay leaf. Add olive oil and
mix gently.
I’ll keep you posted on my progress
(or not). If you have a great recipe please share it.
I've made similar changes and have also added raw juices. You just feel better.
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried raw juice but I'm thinking about it. I need to get a food processor.
DeleteHaven't tried the raw juices yet, but I am trying to eat better.
ReplyDeleteLove your dogs!
I think trying to eat better is the most important thing - no matter how you do it. And thanks, they are kind cute, aren't they?
DeleteI wish you much success. I can't do it. I eliminated most red meat and stopped drinking soda for a long time, but my iron is so low that they had me on pills and I gave up. I just want to eat healthier so I'm doing it all in moderation.
ReplyDeleteHey - moderation is the key to everything and I believe food is definitely better than taking pills. Sounds like you're working on a healthy diet which is excellent. I'll have to see how my iron levels do over the next few months.
ReplyDeleteHi Bev, I've been Vegan for almost 8 years, It's a little difficult sometimes but I like it. I just downloaded and an Indian Vegan cookbook to my Kindle and the recipes are delicious. I use a lot of herbs and spices and very little salt.
