Janice Seagraves grew up with a deep love of science fiction and adventure stories. Always the consummate artist, she traded in her paintbrush for a desktop to write breathless life-affirming novels that celebrate enduring love. Hi Bev, thank you for having me.
Beverley: Which genre or genres do you write or
prefer to write? And why?
Janice: I write romance
in various genres because I love that feel-good ending.
Beverley: Who
influenced you the most in deciding to become a writer?
Janice: I
read one of Marion Eleanor Zimmer Bradley’s Books and found myself wanting to
write. But a lot of my earlier influences came from another author Mary Steward
and a book called Touch Not the Cat.
Beverley: What gets your creative juices flowing?
Janice: An idea, a dream, a character who comes to me and
demands to be written.
Beverley: Do you have a favorite cartoon character? Why?
Janice: Most cartoons are immature, and I can’t bear to
watch them. But if I watch anything like that it’s anime. hey are better
written and drawn. I do like Fruit Basket. It has a good story line and
interesting characters.
Beverley: Who would you love most to meet 'in person' and
why?
Janice: P.C. Hodgell or Jim Butcher. Both are amazingly
good authors, and I would dearly love to pick their brains.
Beverley: If you had an unexpected free day what would you do
with it?
Janice: I’d love to take my daughter and grandchildren to
the beach. They had such fun last time.
Beverley: What are you working on now?
Janice: Something a little different than what I normally write. A story about a woman possessed by a dragon.
Excerpt from
Exodus Arcon Book 2:
While Blade and his siblings were
getting ready to go to the cafeteria, a whistle sounded.
“This is the captain speaking. Blade
Starstrider, you’re needed. Come to the lounge in area two.”
“What do they want you for?” Keefe
peered at his brother while brushing Paz’s hair.
“Don’t know, but I better go find out.”
Blade finished pulling his hair into a high ponytail.
Keefe gave a nod. “Meet us in the
observation lounge in area three. Paz wants to watch our approach.”
“See you there.” Blade hurried out of
their cabin and down the long hallway. Taking the elevator, he headed toward
area two.
The door automatically opened, and he
entered, spotting Captain Tug speaking to the new Prime pro tem Styr.
Movement caught his gaze before the
Shadow Warriors on either side of the door quickly seized his arms.
“Let go of me.” Heart pounding, Blade
tried to jerk out of their grip.
“The Prime has a few questions to ask
you, Blade.” Dirk sneered, dragging him to Styr.
“What is this?” Captain Tug stared from
Blade to Styr. “I thought you had me summon Blade because you wanted him for
part of your honor guard when you took your oath of office?”
“I’m only helping you do your job,
Captain,” Styr said with a superior smirk.
“And how are you helping me?” The
captain furrowed his brow.
“Blade here is a military male. He
should have been left behind when we left. Now, I wonder why he is here, hmm?”
“I’m mated,” Blade snarled at Styr, “to
Aziza.” Was Dirk going to get his way and send me out an air
lock? His stomach gave a quick, painful twist.
